Alpine A110

03/12/2018 - Car of The year

Alpine A110 is one of the seven nominees for Car of the Year 2019 award, alongside Citroën C5 Aircross, Ford Focus, Jaguar I-Pace, Kia Ceed, Mercedes-Benz A-class and Peugeot 508. Let’s know something else about the French sports car.

The Alpine brand revival that Renault announced in 2012 has been brilliantly materialized by the new A110 two-seater. Interesting how the manufacturer from Dieppe has successfully mimicked the appealing lines of the same-name berlinette conceived half a century ago, and at the same time has built such a modern, fun-to-drive and practical sports car. The new one is also lightweight, compact and agile, but unlike the car which shined so much in the rally scene of the ‘70s, it hasn’t an engine hanging behind the rear axle. Its mid-engine layout comprises a turbocharged 1.8 four-cylinder transversally lying between the seats and the rear wheels, offering 250 hp for a dry weight of 1,100 kg. The Alpine provides ride comfort, performance, fuel economy (when not driven full throttle) and it’s much easier and safer to drive fast than one would expect from a mid-engine sports car.
