Volkswagen Passat

After eight generations, the Volkswagen Passat sedan bowed out in 2023. The centerpiece of the manufacturer's range, the model is now only represented by an estate called SW. However, this single body promises a varied range of engines as well as complete equipment.

The look and dimensions of the Volkswagen Passat SW

Don't think that the Passat SW is the fifth wheel of the Volkswagen coach. Even though the model is only offered in one body since the renewal in 2023, the manufacturer has taken care of the style of its wagon. Always sober, it benefits from a bow inspired by the ID.7 electric sedan, the latter can be considered as the replacement for the three-volume Passat. A large air intake highlights the headlamps connected by a black strip and a light line. A few body folds (hood, sides, etc.) give relief to the whole, always very wise with the brand. The rear is equipped with a spoiler, but above all with a light strip that visually widens the car. In terms of size, the model has been lengthened by 14 cm compared to its predecessor.

By opening the door, this 9th generation is no exception to the basic rule of sobriety on board. However, it is worth noting a resolutely modern presentation including a 10.25-inch navigation cluster and a 12.9-inch screen as standard (15 inches on the high trims). The panoply has scrapped physical orders, which have become rare. Navigation is done via the touch interface, which offers two shortcut bars placed on the upper and lower edges of the screen. As with its cousin Skoda Superb, the Passat has migrated its gear selector to the steering column in order to free up storage space in the center console. Passengers enjoy generous space, not least thanks to the 5 cm longer wheelbase. Enough to pick up points against the attractive Peugeot 508 SW in the sense of the more measured welcome. A nice surprise behind the tailgate with 690 dm3 of boot space, one of the best values in the category. Depending on the trim, front occupants can enjoy electrically adjustable, ventilated, heated and massaging seats as well as the panoramic sunroof.

The combustion engines of the Volkswagen Passat SW

For the moment, the Passat SW catalog is not yet complete. The estate offers a four-cylinder micro-hybrid petrol engine (48V) 1.5 eTSI with 150 hp and a four-cylinder diesel 2.0 TDI with equivalent power. In any case, you will have to count on the 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

The plug-in hybrid versions of the Volkswagen Passat

Like its Czech cousin the Skoda Superb, the Volkswagen Passat has a plug-in hybrid engine. Available in two power levels, the latter is composed of a 1.5 TSI four-cylinder engine with 150 hp or 177 hp and a 115 hp electromotor to offer a total of 204 hp or 272 hp. In both cases, the battery has a capacity of 19.7 kWh and announces a range of 100 km in 100% electric mode.
