The first SUV signed by Skoda, the Kodiaq has benefited from a well-deserved renewal in 2023. In the catalogue since 2017, it has given way to a second generation in aesthetic continuity but with more advanced technologies. A new plug-in hybrid version has entered the catalogue.
The placid Skodas of 20 years ago are no longer in people's minds. The Czech brand has skilfully renewed itself over the years to become more attractive. The first Kodiaq is a perfect example, the second generation drives the point home. The front end incorporates a two-storey light signature inspired by the Kamiq and Karoq. The wide grille has, depending on the trim chosen, luminous dotted lines while the bumper has become more imposing. The silhouette remains sober and imposing. It must be said that this generation gains 6 cm in length compared to the previous one (4.76 m). The wheelbase stagnated at 2.79 m. The rear has C-shaped lights but the manufacturer's logo has disappeared in favor of a written inscription.
The aesthetic revolution is more important on the inside. The SUV adopts a dashboard that is still horizontal but with a larger screen: 12.9 inches compared to 8 inches previously. This touch module controls almost all the functions of the cabin, eliminating the physical controls. Three push buttons are located at the base of the centre console, each with a digital display. These "smart controls" manage the air conditioning and heating, while the central element can integrate up to four shortcuts. The Digital Cockpit (10.25 inches) is standard and can be joined by a head-up display.
A companion for families, the Kodiaq offers a multitude of storage spaces and generous roominess, both in terms of legroom and headroom. A 7-seater configuration is still required. The boot space is the big winner of the SUV's growth spurt as it reaches 910 dm3 in 5 seats and 340 dm3 once the third row is deployed.
* In 7-seater configuration
In its time, the Kodiaq I offered a wide range of engines. Here, the competitor to the Peugeot 5008 and Tiguan Allspace is content with two "mills". In petrol, only the 1.5 TSI 150 hp four-cylinder combined with a mild hybridization is offered. The diesel offer is limited to the four-cylinder 2.0 TDI offered in 150 or 193 hp. All are mated to the 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, but only the most powerful diesel benefits from all-wheel drive.
For the first time, the Kodiaq adopts a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It marries the 1.5 TSI 150 with a 54 hp electric motor to offer a total of 204 hp. The 26 kWh battery promises a range of 100 km. In this configuration, the 6-speed DSG automatic transmission has been chosen. By opting for this variant, you will have to accept losing cargo volume. The boot increases to 745 dm3 in 5 seats while the 7-seater version cannot be entitled to this engine.
