In 2014, Porsche offered a little brother to the Cayenne: the Macan. More compact, but not devoid of the qualities debuted by the superior model, the "small" SUV has contributed to the good health of the manufacturer by becoming a real best-seller. To stem the drop in sales linked to the end of the model's career, a second generation was unveiled in early 2024. 100% electric (a first), it is a cousin of the new Audi Q6 e-tron and is the second model without the combustion engine at the manufacturer.
Unlike its predecessor, which was inspired by the look of the Cayenne, the second-generation Macan draws its lines from those of the Taycan electric sedan (especially in terms of the headlights). Both models have the particularity of being 100% electric and thus constitute a small range identifiable in the Porsche catalogue. The compact SUV (6 cm longer than its predecessor) adopts curved front fenders, rectangular headlamps with drooping eyelids and set with four light modules, a wisely ribbed hood and a wide rear light strip. Depending on the version, the front bumper adopts more or less prominent openings (some equipped with movable flaps) which do not show the disappearance of the combustion engines under the hood. On the other hand, the electric steering is betrayed by the absence of an exhaust outlet.
The landmarks of the brand's regulars will not be shaken up once on board. The horizontal dashboard (identical to that of the Panamera) displays a typical seriousness for the manufacturer. The analog meters have given way to a curved 12.6-inch module. Purists will regret the disappearance of the traditional display offering the rev counter in the center. A 10.9-inch touchscreen is in the center, while a similar panel can be integrated in front of the front passenger (optional). Among the many applications available, there is a route planner. Thanks to a wheelbase of 2.89 m, the rear seats have gained in capacity, as has the boot volume of 540 dm3. In addition, there is a small compartment of 84 dm3 under the hood.
Goodbye combustion engines. This generation of Macan inaugurates a new architecture dedicated to 100% electric technology. The catalogue offers the Macan in rear-wheel drive (360 hp) and the Macan 4 (408 hp), the Macan 4S (516 hp) as well as the Macan Turbo (639 hp) with all-wheel drive, offering first-class performance despite a substantial weight above 2,300 kg. The 95 kWh battery announces a minimum range of up to 512 km for the Macan 4S and up to 641 km for the most efficient entry-level Macan. Thanks to a maximum charging power of 270 kW, regeneration from 10 to 80 percent is promised in 21 minutes. It takes 33 minutes with a 150 kW charging station and 10 hours with an 11 kW socket.
