Slowly, the Polestar brand is developing its range. After the Polestar 1 hybrid coupe, Volvo's former sports division that has become a brand in its own right, is turning to the 100% electric with the Polestar 2 sedan, then the Polestar 3, a large SUV with athletic lines cousin of the Volvo EX90. It can count on three versions, offering rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
The Polestar 3 fits perfectly into the minimalist and futuristic approach of its parent company Volvo. The electric SUV adopts clean and modern lines, forming a slender, rather muscular silhouette, thanks to its receding roofline and its quarter windows ending in a peak. The front end is reminiscent of that of the sedan. There is a bumper flanked by triangles at the ends, not to mention the "Thor's hammer" LED headlights, so dear to the two Swedish manufacturers. To take care of the aerodynamics of its SUV, Polestar has chosen a bailer that allows air to pass between the top of the grille and the bottom of the plunging hood. The rear of the SUV is marked by a slim horizontal light signature that runs through the tailgate.
The interior of the Polestar 3 is true to the Scandinavian minimalist spirit. The dashboard is dominated by a 14.5-inch touchscreen in an upright position, which integrates the Android-based infotainment system, offering smooth navigation and connected services like Google Assistant and Google Maps. The driver, on the other hand, can count on a 9-inch diagonal digital instrumentation. The interior gives pride of place to eco-responsible materials, with upholstery that respects animal welfare and recycled textiles. There's no doubt about it, the Polestar 3 is very much in tune with the times. In terms of dimensions, the Sino-Swedish SUV is 4.90 m long, 1.97 m wide, and 1.61 m high. The trunk offers a capacity of 484 dm3, which places it in the rather low average for such a size.
The engine catalogue is based on three variants. The entry-level model is powered by a 299 hp rear-wheel drive called Long Range Single Motor. Next comes the Long Range Dual Motor version, which, as its name suggests, has two electric motors (one per axle) for a combined power of 489 hp. Finally, the top of the range takes the aforementioned engine and adds a "Performance" package, pushing power to 517 hp. Regardless of the version, the Polestar 3 has a large 111 kWh battery, offering between 561 and 650 km of range depending on the WLTP cycle. On the charging side, it takes 30 minutes to go from 10 to 80% in direct current to a maximum power of 250 kW, while refuelling from zero in alternating current (11 kW) takes 11 hours.
