A family-friendly in the Opel range, the Grandland was renewed in April 2024. More statutory and technological than its predecessor, the SUV with the Blitz is also longer and offers 100% electric engines. Despite its technical proximity to the Peugeot 3008, it stands out in many aspects.
This second generation of the Grandland continued the aesthetic renewal of the Opel range, an operation begun with the second Mokka of the name. The look of the family SUV has thus gained in charisma with more statutory features, muscular fenders, a horizontal ribbed hood in the center and a high body line. The vertical bow features the famous "Visor" grille including the headlamps whose light signature extends to the logo. The latter is also backlit, an innovation that Grandland claims to be the first to achieve within the Stellantis group. The rear features Opel illuminated lettering on a black strip that also incorporates a light mesh. The design of the lights is reminiscent of the second-generation Saab 9-5 sedan, a cousin at the time of the first Opel Insigna. In terms of size, the Grandland has experienced a growth spurt with an additional 17 cm in length to peak at 4.65 m. This is 11 cm longer than its technical cousin, the Peugeot 3008.
With such measurements, the Grandland announces a sense of welcome. Passengers in the rear enjoy sufficient legroom and can slide their feet under the front seats, which is not always possible on electric vehicles with a flat floor. On the other hand, modularity remains basic with a fixed 40/20/40 folding bench seat in three parts, while the model is deprived of a 7-seater configuration. The trunk benefits from a vast volume of 550 dm3.
The presentation is more elaborate than in the past with a more elegant horizontal dashboard. Behind the steering wheel is a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, supported by a head-up display, depending on the trim selected. On the entry-level and mid-range models, a 10-inch touchscreen is available. Its size climbs to 16 inches on the high trims. Audio and climate settings still rely on physical controls. Simple and effective.
The 100% combustion engines have disappeared with the change of generation. From now on, the Grandland adopts a 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine (with chain distribution) combined with a 28 hp electric motor. This 136 hp variant benefits from a 0.9 kWh battery installed in the 6-speed automatic transmission signed by Punch Powertrain.
Like its predecessor, the Grandland is also available as a plug-in hybrid. This engine combines a 1.6 PureTech petrol engine and an electric motor that develop 195 hp. This tandem is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission and a 21 kWh battery. The announced range is 85 km in electric mode, 20 km better than on the previous generation.
The Opel Grandland's offer is modelled on that of the Peugeot e-3008, with both SUVs sharing the same technical base. Customers can then choose three power levels: 210, 230 and 320 hp (called GSE). The first has a single motor placed on the front axle while the other two benefit from an additional module on the rear axle and therefore pride themselves on being 4-wheel drive. The mid-range engine benefits from a 98 kWh battery (73 kWh on the other two) and announces a range of 700 km. This extended range allows the Grandland to compete with the Skoda Enyaq.
