First unveiled as a 100% electric model, the current generation of Mini welcomed two petrol engines under its hood several months later. The chic city car thus plays the multi-energy card, without losing the charming look that made it successful and while benefiting from a wide range of technologies.
The recipe has not changed. Generation after generation, the Mini Cooper evolved without radically changing its appearance. This version still benefits from oval headlamps matched with generous body curves and a one-piece beltline. The whole remains homogeneous and does not accentuate the angles as the Countryman SUV did. The rear benefits from triangular lights connected by a black strip, regardless of the version selected. The "Union Jack" light signature is available from the entry-level level. The electric SE version stands out with specific badges or a solid grille, while that of the combustion models is perforated and divided into two horizontal parts. The customization possibilities are always varied with stripes on the hood or a contrasting roof (depending on the trims). Like the previous model, this generation benefits from a version stretched by 17 cm and equipped with rear doors, a combination that favours space on board and accessibility to the bench seat.
The dashboard is adapted to the tastes of the day. Gone are the analog instrumentation of older models and physical controls. Here, everything is played out in the center, on the (original) round touch screen with a diameter of 24 cm using OLED technology. A refinement delivered as standard, please. The interface allows you to control essential features (heating, air conditioning, music, etc.) but also to display driving information (speed, range, engine temperature, etc.). Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also make up the basic panoply. The spaciousness ratings have changed little compared to the previous model with, for the combustion engines, a gain of 2 cm in length (3.88 m), 1 cm in width (1.74 m) and 2 cm in height (1.43 m). The wheelbase is identical (2.50 m). On the other hand, this last value increases to 2.53 m on the electric Mini. The trunk volume is 210 dm3 in all cases.
In its "SE" variant, the Mini Cooper has a strong 218 hp electric motor, powered by a battery with a capacity of 54.2 kWh. This offers 402 km of range according to the WLTP cycle. In terms of charging, the Cooper takes 30 minutes to go from 10 to 80% connected to a DC terminal and 5 hours and 15 minutes to fully fill up with electrons in alternating current.
