Ford Capri

09/11/2024 - Car of The year

Ford is once again taking advantage of its synergy with the Volkswagen Group by borrowing the technical platform of the ID.5 and the Cupra Tavascan to resurrect a name that has disappeared since the 1980s. After the Puma, the American manufacturer is now reviving the Capri.

The look and dimensions of the Ford Capri

By tackling such a name, the designers of the blue oval manufacturer had their work cut out for them to go from an iconic coupe to an SUV... cut. If its overall silhouette of 4.63 m long and 1.87 m wide has nothing to do with its ancestor, the Capri weaves a few links here and there with the original model. This is evidenced by its black grille that connects dual headlamps, like the pairs of round headlights of yesteryear, or the bump in the hood. The other nod to the quarter panels, whose C-shaped outline imitates that of the old one.

For the interior, the Ford Capri uses exactly the same furniture, including seats, as its little brother the Explorer. The atmosphere is still minimalist with a small 5-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel combined with a 14.6-inch touchscreen in an upright position on the centre console. And as with the Explorer, the tilt of the latter is adjustable in five positions, making it possible to avoid unwanted reflections from the sun and at the same time to free up access to storage. The 17 dm3 space nestled in the central armrest is also part of the game. In this regard, the Capri claims 572 dm3 for its trunk volume.
