To expand its range a little more, Audi launched the A5 coupe in 2007. With an attractive style, the two-door was available in a convertible version, until then integrated into the A4 line, and saw the appearance of a family body called Sportback. After being renewed in 2016 for a second generation, without shaking up the codes already in place, the 2024 A5 model year changes completely: larger, more technological and available as a sedan as well as an estate. In addition to replacing the old version, it also supplants the A4, which will go electric.
As with many of its models, Audi has been gentle on the aesthetic evolution. Thus, the third A5 of the name takes up the silhouette of its predecessor, while refining the general line and is even more wise. The more plunging bonnet, the wider grille, the slimmer lights are markers of this version. The profile is marked by a line accentuating the curves of the wings. The rear features slim lights and a classic trunk hood. The size also evolves with 4.83 m long (+7 cm) and 1.86 m wide. Since the A5 also takes on the role of the A4, Audi has therefore launched a new "Avant" estate version at the same time, measuring 2 cm more in height than the sedan with its 1.46 m.
Inside, the occupants face a dashboard very much inspired by the one inaugurated by the Q6 e-tron SUV, with up to three in the front alone. In front of the driver, two beautiful curved panels (11.9 inches for the Virtual Cockpit and 14.5 inches for the central touchscreen) make their little effect. The third optional screen is located in front of the passenger. In terms of spaciousness, the long wheelbase (2.90 m) offers ample space on board, both front and rear. On the trunk side, the volume varies between 445 dm3 for the sedan and 476 dm3 for its estate variant.
Under the hood, the A5 has 2.0-litre petrol engines with 150 hp or 204 hp and a diesel block of the same displacement, also powerful with 204 hp, but supported by a micro-hybridisation. Apart from the least powerful engine, which is only offered in rear-wheel drive, the Quattro all-wheel drive is available on all other engines. And regardless of the engine, the 7-speed S-Tronic automatic transmission is standard. For sportiness enthusiasts, Audi is renewing its S5 version, with a 3.0 TFSI V6 with 367 hp, necessarily associated with the Quattro system. On the micro-hybrid versions, thanks to the 1.7 kWh battery (gross capacity) and the 24 hp electric motor for 230 Nm of torque, very low-speed driving as well as manoeuvring and parking are possible in all-electric mode.
