Opel Frontera

17/09/2024 - Car of The year

Exit the Crossland. Launched in 2017, the compact SUV with the Blitz has definitively bowed out in 2024 in favor of the Frontera. In addition to the revival of an old name, the latter has continued the aesthetic renewal of the Opel range, while displaying larger proportions and relying on a comprehensive technological offer.

The look and dimensions of the Opel Frontera

Fans of exotic vehicles are already familiar with the silhouette of the Opel Frontera. At least, in part. The SUV with the Blitz shares a large number of elements with the new Citroën C3 Aircross. The filiation between the two SUVs is particularly visible from the rear three-quarters with similar proportions, marked fenders, a straight tailgate and an identical window cutout. The Frontera is distinguished by the lights arranged on two stages, the lettering of its name and a specific bumper with vertical reflectors. At the front, the Blitz SUV has a more personal style thanks to the black "Visor" grille that incorporates headlamps in its extension. This element characterises recent Opel productions. The shield is equipped with two vertical scoops and a wide opening in the lower part. The general silhouette, marked by a few ribs, remains sober and gives an impression of robustness thanks to its rectilinear shapes. The adoption of the Frontera name, used on a previous 4x4 of the brand (1991-2004), reinforces the adventurous spirit.

The interior is inspired by that of the Grandland with a horizontal dashboard with two screens (10 inches) adjoined. Called Pure Panel, this layout is next to various physical controls dedicated to adjusting the air conditioning or the audio system. The centre console houses the gear selector designed in the form of a trigger, as well as a large storage space capable of accommodating a touchscreen tablet. Several USB sockets are available (2 in the front, 2 in the back) with a cooled wireless smartphone charger. Welcoming, the interior benefits from plenty of storage space here and there. The trunk has a capacity of between 451 and 1600 dm3 and has a liftable floor. In the event that the hold is full, Opel announces the possibility of loading up to 200 kg on the roof racks.
