Car of the Year, now close to round off its 56th edition in Geneva Motor Show, is the most veteran and prestigious automotive award. Also packed with anecdotal facts.

1 point: slimmest gap between the winner and the second car. It happened in 2001 (Alfa Romeo 147-Ford Mondeo) and 2009 (Opel Insignia-Ford Fiesta)

2 models which repeated as winner: Renault Clio in 1991 and 2006; Volkswagen Golf in 1992 and 2013

5 nominees selected for the final vote in 1995. It changed to10 finalists in 2001, then to the current number of 7 in 2002
