Tannistest 2018

02/10/2018 - Car of The year

As a kind of advance to Paris Motor Show, the Tannistest recently gathered some of the new cars to be seen in Mondial de l’Automobile and many of the candidates for Car of the Year 2019 award. The week-long event held in Northern Denmark since 1978 and organized by the six Nordic members of CotY Jury, was again a useful assessment occasion for the attending jurors, coming from 18 different countries.

Tannis area offers little-visited roads for varied test driving conditions, and then there is the Sindal airstrip close by, where the cars are submitted to the usual elk test and autonomous emergency braking checks in full safety. Among the 60 cars available for driving, there was a couple of exotic models announced for a 0-100 acceleration of 3.6 seconds and top speed over 300 km/h. The Aston Martin Vantage was one, and it excelled in the avoidance manoeuvre with the top passing speed at 80 km/h. The average having improved noticeably, many cars performed the elk test with an entering speed of 75 km/h. It was the case of the Lamborghini Urus, and this is more surprising, having in account that the Italian super-SUV has a ground clearance of 25 cm that logically affects its center of gravity.

More a more frequent in any kind of cars, the emergency braking device is also progressively improving the scope of speeds where it functions properly. The champion in the AEB test in Sindal was the Hyundai SantaFe SUV, starting autonomous braking even at 85 km/h. Very near, with 80 km/h, qualified the Hyundai Nexo, a fuel-cell electric car now available for orders in many European dealerships.
