The Nominees 2010

Opel/Vauxhall Astra
Mixing Insignia’s blades and wings styling theme in a different way, Opel has shaped an appealing, almost muscular, Astra. The 5-door car is also much bigger, therefore heavier. There’s not much space gain in the cabin, but the perceived quality of the interior is much improved, with layout and looks also similar to big brother. Noise suppression and smooth ride, together with the efficient damping that goes with FlexRide adaptive system, offer a high level of comfort. For cost and packaging, Opel keeps a rear beam axle, now unrecognizable thanks to a Watts transversal linkage that adds to handling and cabin insulation. Most interesting engines are 1.4 & 1.6 Turbo that allow good performance without too much cost at the pump.
