The Nominees 2015
BMW 2-Series Active Tourer
BMW has resisted using front wheel drive in their models for a long time, but the popular drive system entered the Group with the Mini, and now expands to a first vehicle with BMW brand name; others will follow. The Active Tourer addresses the Premium compact MPV segment, where it meets Mercedes-Benz B-class or VW Golf Sportsvan. Roominess and cargo space hold in a rather tall body of contained length, offering more practicality for the size than other BMWs. Dynamics and handling do not disappoint, as BMW standards are respected. The top engine is a lively 2.0 Turbo with 231 hp announcing 0-100 acceleration in less than 7 s. More prosaic are the 3-cyinder 1.5 petrol and diesel engines (136 and 116 hp), a common powertrain with the new-generation Mini.
